Infrastructure

The Laboratory is a well-equipped with the appropriate infrastructure fulfilling the needs of research projects relevant to preparation, modification and characterization of packaging films. This infrastructure consists of hydraulic press with heated platens, vacuum oven, Spectrophotometer UV-Vis, Mechanical Test System, Film’s Oxygen permeability measurement system. Furthermore, there is specified section for tracing geographic origin of food consisting of IRMS (Isotope Ratio Mass Spectrometer) system (in collaboration with Plant Production Laboratory).

Τhe laboratory’s members focus in the following research topics:

  • Hybrid organic-inorganic nanocomposites. Synthesis / structure characterization. Investigation of mechanical and barrier properties.
  • Biodegradable films for packaging applications
  • Geographic origin of agricultural products and food via isotopic ratio of stable isotopes estimation, (13C/12C, 15N/14N, 2H/1H, 18O/16O).
