The Department of Business Administration of Food and Agricultural Enterprises was established in 1998 according to the Presidential Decree 96/98 as "Department of Agribusiness Management". Its main aim is the systematic study, organization, management and functioning of enterprises which are developed in the primary sector aiming at the education of competent scientists to deal with agricultural economy, agribusiness management, selling, disposing agricultural products, administration, management of process enterprises and food enterprises.
The aim of the department is the covering of needs of agricultural enterprises and co-operatives, the development of a new model of agricultural enterprises and the national exploitation of agricultural resources.
Historical Background
The Department of Agribusiness Management was founded in 1998 (presidential decree 96/98) and started to run in Agrinio in the academic year 1998-1999. In the first year of its operation 79 students registered. Today, the total number of students of the department Agribusiness and Management for the first five years are 460.
The establishment of the department of Agribusiness and Management was sponsored by the programme EPEAEK.
On the 6th of July in 2003 the first 15 degrees were awarded to students and on the 16th of December of the same year 12 more graduates were added.
In 2004 and after successive reformations of the departmental curriculum our graduates acceptance to the Greek Chamber of Economists was achieved.
In June 2006 the Department was renamed as Department of Business Administration of Food and Agricultural Enterprises (presidential decree 110/2006, FEK 109/5-6-2006) so that its aim and the content of the studies can be reflected. Till then 738 students were enrolled and 130 students had already graduated.
