  • Production Economics: Meaning, definition. Nature and scope of Agricultural Production Economics.
  • Introduction to production economics
  • Production Factors for the of agricultural products (land, labour, capital).
  • Types and systems of farming (farming and farming systems, organization of agricultural production, intensity and crop rotation).
  • Production Cost and farm efficiency.
  • Production Functions in agriculture (Meaning and types Laws of returns: Increasing, constant and decreasing. Factor-product relationship, Determination of optimum input and output Factor-factor relationship, Product-product relationship. 
  • Marketing of agricultural products.
  • Prices of agricultural products.
  • Processing-storage - transport of agricultural products.
  • Standardization - packaging -  identification of agricultural products.
  • Market research and advertising.

Educational Aims

By the end of this course the students will have developed the following skills:

  • Ability to exhibit knowledge and understanding of the essential facts, concepts, theories and applications which are related to Agricultural Economics.
  • Ability to apply this knowledge and understanding to the solution of problems related to Agricultural Economic
  • Ability to adopt and apply methodology to the solution of non-familiar problems
  • Study skills needed for continuing professional development.
  • Ability to interact with others in agricultural Economics
  • Ability to analyse and calculate the basic cost of agricultural production
  • Ability to analyse and calculate the main economic outcomes that are of interest to agricultural Farms
  • In addition, the workshop will provide students the essential skills to solve s practical problems of the agricultural economy with spreadsheets (Excel)
