Price Analysis of Agricultural Products

Subject

The course aims to provide students with an advanced integrated knowledge and understanding of price formulation and mechanisms and enable students to acquire a specialised knowledge of selected topics, such as:

Introduction to the economists’ way of thinking, Introduction in the price mechanism. The demand for agricultural products (consumer theory, demand for agricultural products, determinants of demand, demand functions, elasticities of demand). Supply of agricultural products (Production theory, supply of agricultural products, supply functions, determinants of supply, supply elasticities , effect of technological progress. Demand for production inputs. Formulation of prices of agricultural products, Price fluctuations for agricultural products.

Educational Aims

At the end of this course students are expected to obtain basic skills and knowledge to understand how prices are formulated along with the factors that affect the whole mechanism especially for the case of Agricultural Products.

Student Evaluation

The assessment of the expected learning outcomes is made by written examination at the end of the semester, which includes questions that evaluate both the acquired knowledge by students and their ability to utilize them critically.
