Educational Aims

The course is an introduction to the concepts of risk management in the agricultural sector and it concentrates on concepts related to the functioning of derivatives markets. The subject matter of the course aims to introduce students to the basic concepts of the operation of futures contracts and options as well as to their valuation. It also introduces hedging issues in both futures and options markets. The course also introduces basic risk management methodologies and techniques which can be used in the agricultural sector to protect all market participants involved in the agro-food chain from the risk due to price and production variability. Upon successful completion of the course the student will be able to understand the functioning of derivative markets.

Written final exam (100%) including:

  • Multiple choice questions
  • Solving problems related to the teaching subject
  • Comparative evaluation of theoretical issues
