Subject
Location theory and economic activity - Theories on localized industrial formation. Agglomeration and localization: industrial complexes, districts and clusters. Rural entrepreneurship and local development theories. Business clusters and networks as models and strategy of SMEs in the global context. Cluster Theory and Practice: Advantages for the Small Business; rural business clusters – advantages, disadvantages and success factors.
Educational Aims
Investigating the relationship of local / regional to the globalized economy and understanding the new phenomena of industrial concentration and specialization. Understanding new business models in the modern market.
Student Evaluation
Exam in the end of the term. Optional essay on cluster case-studies and presentation in class, contributing 25% to the final grade.
