Time Management
Tips for your study
- Be realistic. Be aware of
how fast you can work. Do not compare yourselves with others since
everyone has their own way of working.
- Organise
your time. Work out what you have to do each week and give yourself
deadlines.
- Prioritise.
Do not do the easiest task first but the one that is the most
important/ urgent. If you have assessed work to do keep to the
deadline. If for any reason, you cannot meet the deadline, inform your
tutor and ask for an extension in advance.
- Find a place to study where
you can work effectively. Some find it easier to concentrate at home
while others prefer the library. The unexpected always happens, so be
prepared to be flexible.
- Remember that you are in
control of your learning. Organise breaks in
your study. Short periods of effective study are better than doing
nothing for two or three days and then trying to catch up in ten
hours.
- Make notes of your ideas as
you think of them and also problems you want to discuss with your
tutor.
- Sometimes it is helpful to
work with a friend or in a group. If you have to write up results of a
piece of work, make sure that you do not copy each
others' work otherwise you could lose marks or even fail the
piece of work. You are strictly not allowed to copy information from
books or the Internet.
Coping with Stress
What is Stress
Stress is caused by your body's reactions to
situations that threaten your mental and physical health. There is positive
and negative stress. Positive stress provides you with the energy and
motivation to do things. For example, go on time to a class,
finish an assignment on time etc. Stress becomes negative, when you don't
plan work load properly and you let things build up.
Symptoms of Stress
When you are stressed, you experience behavioural and emotional symptoms. For example,
difficulty getting to sleep, depression, exhaustion and lack of energy.
Strategies to cope with
stress
- Recognise
that you are suffering from negative stress. Try to find ways that
make you relax. In Agrinio there are a
number of coffee shops, pubs and clubs where students can meet after
classes.
- Take care of yourself by
eating well and exercising. You should find time for yourself and do
activities not relating to work.
- Try to manage your time
effectively. Read the Time Management Guide.
- You should try not to judge
yourself harshly. Try to think positively by recognizing your
achievement. Get the right balance between academic, social and
personal activities.
